Rising Light

Amara wrote this on a balcony in Lagos at five in the morning, at the end of a year she describes as the hardest of her life. She had stopped asking God for outcomes and started asking only for morning. The first line arrived before the melody did, and she sang it over the city for weeks before she ever recorded it.

Before the city wakes I hear You Before the noise, before the news Mercy has already risen Carrying my name to You Rising light, rising light You were faithful through the night Every morning You begin again Rising light, rise in me
