Drawing From a Deeper Well

The woman at the well came for water at the hottest hour of the day, which usually means she came when nobody else would be there.

Jesus starts the conversation by asking her for something. That is worth sitting with. He approaches her need through her dignity.

Then He offers water that becomes a spring inside a person. Not a supply you visit. A source you carry.

Most of us live on visited supplies — a good Sunday, a conference, a strong week. Those are gifts. They are not a spring.

The shift from supply to spring is usually unglamorous: short, daily, unimpressive returns to God. Nobody writes songs about the ninth ordinary morning in a row.

If you are tired today, hear this clearly: tiredness is not evidence of a shallow faith. Even Jesus sat down at that well because He was tired. But tiredness is an invitation to check what you have been drinking from.
